It is good to see that there is hope. The price is within reach, now it is time to get organized. $4.12 Cdn, $3.94 US, $4.50 AU I think we can all buy a couple of these each considering what we spend on our hobby, yes?

Great thread, this one; lots and lots of really solid and creative ideas.
However, I cannot help but feel that because there are so many good ideas, a bit of a bottleneck has built up and is holding up progress. It seems as though due to the amount of suggestions, the way forward is being blocked and preventing the main issue from reaching fruition. Naturally, every 'member state' wishes to see itself represented fairly and equally on any BCMBF members' badge, something that I must say would make for a better design overall, but one of the issues raised in the discussions concerning the reasons for wanting a members' badge (namely, as an easy and instantly recognisable means of ID at badge fairs, for example) would not necessarily be adequately addressed by such an all-encompassing and detailed design. That is not to say that if members wore a badge whose design was of an elaborate nature that other members would be unable to identify it, but more that this kind of design might be better suited to the professionally manufactured lapel-type badge that many associations and clubs adopt for their members. As an example, here is my GWF badge: GWF Badge.jpg If memory serves, it cost something in the region of £2 to £3 to buy. As others have already said, I see it as perhaps something that requires further thought, further debate, and to be put to a larger number of members for approval. Without wishing to further complicate the already overcrowded ideas pool, it may be worth considering a two-pronged approach to this matter, whereby those members who would like to see an elaborate, well-designed, all-encompassing badge could press forward with the ideas currently on the table, it possibly being a more long-term project, but in addition could also perhaps consider the idea of having another, much simpler badge/emblem, running in parallel, and which is easy to produce, virtually cost-free, immediately accessible by all, and variable (within a small parameter) according to individuals' needs. This would allow the main badge design project to continue, and free up time for wider debate on the forum, but also bring forward the opportunity for members to have a second, simpler, more easily produced badge for wear at fairs etc. A design of this nature, in my opinion, should be: a) easily identifiable to all forum members at a glance b) non faction specific. Do away with the idea of having to represent every 'member state' within the badge's basic design, and keep its fundamental configuration specific to the forum only c) easy and cheap to produce by members themselves at home This is all very well for me to bang on about, but without samples to offer as examples of what could be done, the whole debate will very probably fall once again to the back of the forum sofa, only for somebody else to dig out again at some future stage. Therefore, it has been suggested to me by another forum member that the (originally) light-hearted effort I put forward as the fictional TRF I would be sporting at the last Bedford Fair might be worthy of consideration. So for those of you who have not seen it before, here it is (K&K 0001) : BCMBF TRF.JPG First of all it utilises our beloved forum colours. Secondly, it is painfully simple; a basic square, divided diagonally in two, with a red 'F' representing (before any other 'probables' come flying in) 'FORUM', at its centre. Third, it could easily be produced at home by printing it out on some of that T-shirt paper from PC World, and perhaps ironed on to the sleeve of a T-shirt or coat or whatever, or even just printed on regular paper or card and slipped into an ID card case worn around the neck, or in any other way members prefer. As mentioned above, if so desired, members could easily 'personalise' it by adding (for example) two letters which represent their particular country, so if you are a UK member, your TRF could look like this: BCMBF TRF GB.JPG (...the letters 'U', 'K' and 'F' are not recommended! ) If you are from New Zealand, perhaps it could look like this: BCMBF TRF NZ.JPG ...you get the idea. What I am proposing is not intended to be a final solution to the BCMBF Members' Badge issue, but merely a suggestion that could provide members with something simple, possibly filling the requirement for an easily recognisable badge, that is easy to produce, not particularly identifiable to non-members when worn in public at fairs etc, and which does not favour any particular 'member state' in its design. Well that's my tuppence-worth... nuff said. PJ |

Forum TRF
Good drills PJ,
Free and simple is good for me. I've knocked up a couple of prototypes the one shown here is backed with an old 3 Para DZ flash. I don't know if I'm going to stitch it on to my "Anorak" or whether it might be more suited to my day sack. At least people will know who to avoid at fairs! Regards to all.
