Tanganyika Veterinary Department

I rather like unusual colonial badges, especially if they are African. So, I was pleased when this one turned up. Tried to find out a bit about the Tanganyika Veterinary Department, but the internet isn't too forthcoming with historical information. I guess that the Department operated up until the early 60s , but that is about all. Can anone help ?

In Fendall's East African Force 1915-1919 (reprint by The Battery Press Nashville) in a chapter entitled "Departments" he talks briefly about The Veterinary Department and its Laboratory "near Nairobi".This unit may well be the original forerunner to the Tanganyika Department as shown.

Interesting badge...never seen one listed or in the flesh.
