Default Some lads O' the village 2?Bn the Welch

with a written inscription on the reverse

"these are a couple of our old men from France, wounded"

"To dear Dad & Mam, Jimmy & Hilly,
with all love,
Willie,
29.7.16

Hard to read but at bottom right below the regimental crest it appears to say 2?Bn the Welch, whilst to bottom left it says Some lads O' the Village.

Hard to read exactly which Bn it is, at first I thought it was 21st Bn but they were a reserve bn and did not go to France.

Note also that one in the center has the large OSD POW Welch collar badge

The 21st(R)Bn The Welsh Regiment were stationed at Kinmel Bay, N. Wales in July 1916.

Men wounded at the front, discharged from hospital but not yet fit for further active service were sent to Reserve Battalions such as this before being drafted back to a front line Bn overseas.

So it is entirely probable to see " 21 Bn The Welsh" on the PC.

regards

You could well be correct Simon, thanks for offering a different perspective on it.

Simon has said exactly what I was going to point out Jerry. I am sure that he is right. It was one of several roles of the reserve battalions.

And a rarity. Cards of home units are funnily enough, very rare, whereas you more often come across cards of Service and Territorial Battalions.
