Mike,
I may be wrong but I believe it was part of the 68th Anti Tank regiment (46th North Midland) Division PL |

Thanks, but I'm not convinced. First - 68 ATk Regt was formed by the conversion of 2/4 DWR (hardly a Warwickshire connection) and second - If it had been a battery in an ATk Regt it would have been xxx ATk Bty. It is confusing though since battery numbers were duplicated/quadruplicated across different branches of the RA so that they will probably have been a 269 HAA Bty, 269 Med Bty, 269 LAA Bty etc. Mike

68th Anti-Tank Regiment, R.A. (T.A.), listed as just 269 Bty.
68th (South Midland) Field Regiment, R.A. (T.A.) listed as 269 (Warwick) Bty. Marc |

There was also a 269 Bty as part of 77 LAA Regiment (TA), Royal Artillery, formed April 1941. The Battery was formed at Lower Billingham Hereford from D Troop/222 Bty and D Troop 223/Bty on 29th April 1941. The Battery served in India (Comilla, Khargpur) in 1943 and also Burma. It was disbanded on 28th February 1945 when 77 LAA Regt. was disbanded.
My grandfather served in it. Sources: RA Forum; Malcolm Bellis; Gen; Sir Martin Farndale: History of the Royal Regiment of Artillery. The Far East Theatre 1941 - 1945 (London: Brassey's/Royal Artillery Institution), rev.ed. 2002 David |
