Worcestershire Regiment Valise badge
Hello gentlemen,
i have aquired this Worcestershire Valise badge from a dealers site. Now there are some doubts by an other collector that this badge is an original one. Die struck, garter and lion with sharp details, the medaillon is very high domed. The whole reverse have a brown, tarnish, bronzed "patina", it is not painted. The lugs have no defined feet, but are probably partly bent over with different lengths. Two of the main rays are partialy filled with solder, looks like there was a crack or small hole in one them. The solder looks grey, like lead or tin. Dimensions: 104 x 80 mm, weight: 37,8g Any comments and opinios welcome, real or fake ? Thanks in advance and regards Markus |

Hello Markus,
A genuine example of a Worcestershire valise star is shown in the gallery. Note the box type fitting on the reverse to accommodate the valise strap. I have seen other examples identical to this one, but never a valise star sporting lugs. Perhaps you can draw your conclusions from this. Kind regards, Jim. |

Thanks Jim and Mike,
in the meantime i got some more informations from an experienced collector. The badge itself is an original one, type 4, 1890-1952, described in the book "Badges of the Worcestershire Regiment" by Roger Wilmot Bennet. These badges were also worn on the pouches of pipers and drummers, and for this purpose they were not delivered with the normal "box-fitting" but with four lugs, or delivered without any fittings and converted in regimental workshop. So at least it is not a real "valise badge" but also not a fake. Thanks for your comments, regards Markus |
