Thanks for the info. All pictures I have are also black and white, but I do have an original hat and tie that I will take a picture of and post it asap.
Still trying to find an original blouse, but that may remain elusive. Items like blouse, skirt, tie, hat without badge could quite easily be worn postwar as civilian dress, so these items are harder to find than the jackets. Steven |

Hi Loupie
Mark here . I have managed to find your nurse in the archives - still need your p/m to be able to send you scans But here is a quick summary . Kleonitei Mary Tapinos Born 5/1/1913 daughter of Mrs M Tapinos of 55 North Street Plantation Boksburg Transvaal Religion noted as Church Of England and marital status as single Previously served with The St John's Ambulance , qualified home nurse and first aid Civilian occupation saleslady . She assumed military duty on the 15th March 1941 , and did indeed serve with the 107 SA General Hospital , in Florence . Record card states that she was 'Evac by sea 6.10.45' Hope this helps Regards Mark |

Yes that ties up with the rank on her epaulette. As a St.John's trained nurse, she would have been a VAD. Upon joining the SAMNS, she would be a probationer nurse and would have worn one 'pip'. From what I have read, most of the probationers remained in the Union of SA with a small selection chosen to serve overseas. This would have been one of them.
