NFS cap badge? Red lettering on star & crown
Hi,
Hope someone can help with the following query. I have a silver coloured badge (cap badge?) in the shape of a 7 pointed star with a crown on the top and the initials NFS in the centre circle with red lettering. The reverse side is smooth with a capital letter M stamped on the back of the crown. This was amongst my grandads possessions, and would like to know some history about it. I look forward to hearing your views/ideas. Many thanks Mandy |

Mandy,
It is the National Fire Service cap badge,it existed during WW2 and might have continued for a period after the end of the war. I am afraid thats about all I can tell you, might be worth either trying to get hold of a book on the Home Front or trying an internet search on National Fire Service or Home Front. P.B.

Thanks for that. I always thought my grandad was in the home guard during WW2, so that has put a whole new slant on things. Not sure what he was in now or possibly both. Wonder if there are records held anywhere? Cheers Mandy |
