Cheers Guys

There’s some good stuff there! The regimental flash is great, that tallies with the guy in the Nijmegen photo in my earlier posting, so that seems pretty conclusive… That guy also has what look like brass NH shoulder insignia, do you think that would have been worn in battle?

Sean, retouched photo looks neat , I’m waiting for the museum to back to me hopefully they can add copies of my photos to their collection. I’m going to head up there within the next few weeks touch wood.

On the TAC sign in the pale blue square (where the X is) what figure would be in there?

Tyneside Irish, echoing Sean’s comment would love to hear any stories and share resources with SSM J.W. Siddle

Regards, Paul

Sorry guys but it is the discovery museum and it only displays a small amount of 15th 19th and NH Hussars that it used to when it was housed in Fenham barracks. Cheers Sean.
Only guessing X denotes battery commander the light blue square in this position is vehicle A.

Not worth a 3 minute walk! It's a small room divided into a horseshoe shape full of kids dressing up stuff and German Souviners and there's more NH content on this forum than there is in the combined 15th / 19th KRH, NH, LD room. Avoid unless you think you really must visit.

Looking at the unknown Hussar in Post #4, would the 'NH' shoulder titles and cap badge both be in brass for an OR in WW2?? Also would they have replaced the the general service buttons on the forage cap with Northumberland Hussars buttons??

According to the book: HISTORY OF THE NORTHUMBERLAND HUSSARS YEOMANRY 1924–1949 ByJoan Bright:

"It was decided, after consultation with the new Battery Commanders, that both Batteries would wear the Northumberland Hussars cap badges, buttons, and shoulder titles."

Default Northumberland Hussars metal shoulder title

Hello Gentlemen,
I wonder how was made the metal shoulder title for the Northumberland Hussars during the WWII, white metal or gilding metal? It was officialy introduced at the beginning of the 50's in white metal I think.
I present mine in white metal but have no idea of the period when this one was used. All information welcom. J-F

I was talking to a dealer at a military fair on Saturday, he told me they were brass or plated metal (like yours) up to ~1942, then they were replaced with slip on khaki shoulder tabs with NH printed on in black. How true this is, I have no idea??! You can see by the photo I posted they were still using metal in Holland in late 44.

I was also told that Yeomanry/Cavalry units used rank stripes with a black instead of khaki backing. Again, I have found no evidence to back this up!

Bought another cap badge fom ebay, JR Gaunt in what looks like brass but gilded/silvered. I assume this is post war, as I thought in WW2 officers' were bronzed and ORs were plain brass. Can anyone confirm if that's correct?

cheers
Paul

Not a particularly good pic I'm afraid, but taken from a 'WW2 in Colour' book, Monty addressing troops of 50th Div in Normandy, July 44. The blue flash can be seen below the RA arm of service, also the metal shoulder title
