8mm Lapel Insignia
Hello,
I have here a very small star insignia, maybe a lapel badge? It appears to be brass and is exactly 8mm across. The star unusually has a flat border around it. It has flexible wire fixings at the back. Could anyone kindly tell me what it is? I assume it may be WW2. Photo attached. Thanks for any help. Jules. |

At 8mm I think it is far too small for a cap insignia. I believe they are one of the many variations of Italian rank stars

Thanks to those who have replied so far. I agree it looks too small to be a cap badge, and googling Italian rank badges, I find similar ones but nothing the same. Italian ones seem closest so far though.

Italian? Yes, looking about I think it may be the star from an Italian collar patch like this image shows.

These stars are used by several countries on medal ribbons to denote second awards etc.

I once had a "lot" of about 10 that had been "liberated" by one of our troops. He clearly was a "collector" ahead of me.
There are also small stars that were part of my 1960s Cubs uniform but I think that they had blades and we rather flimsy-looking. Worn against a circle of yellow felt? |
