Queens Road, Battersea
There was a Queens Road in Battersea (pre-war). It ran from the junction between Lavender Hill and Battersea Park Road. It ended at an old railway station - was called Queens Road Station. Its now called Queenstown Road.

QOR of Cda : Big "2" and small "2" on OR cap badges...
Hi Greg,
Can you explain why they are sometimes a big "2" or a small "2" on QOR of Cda other rank cap badges? Cheers. J-F |

Ho J-F, I think the difference in size of the number is just due to a variation in the badge. As previously mentioned, pre-1900 badges do not have the "of Canada" portion in the mottoe. Early pre-1900 officers badges I've seen (but do not own) have the number attached to a small metal screen, with a red fabric insert. The ORs version is similar to the one in photo, just with out the "of Canada". Mini collar badges exist for mess dress. The set that I have is from a pre-WW2 white summer weight mess dress. The badge to this set has lugs. The WW2 era officers badge has a slider as does the post war version I have (although the lugs were replaced wth a slider).

HI all, updating this post with a nice QOR pre-1914 NCO's Busby I traded for about 6 months ago. I've also included a helmet decal from my decal album. The decal is a frosted silver badge with red around the 2 on a rifle green background

Not sure how I missed this original post!?
The FS cap is most likely circa-1900. The design is basically identical to the 1937 pattern. The give-away is the badge (partly, as these can be readily changed) and the maker's mark. I have a dated (1902) FS cap with exactly the same maker's mark. This is a great cap to have. Clive

Here are a couple other Queens Own Rifles items I've picked up since the original post. The shoulder Belt Plate appears to have had red paint in the arms of the cross, under the crown and around the number. I believe this makes it a ORs belt plate. If it was in silver with black paint or enamel it would be a officers plate. I've also added a link to a pre-WW1 side-cap and a image of the WW2 helmet decal via the light table.

Hi Clive, click on the "All Albums" and type "decal" in the search box, that should get you to the album or click on my name and that should get you to my "stats" which should lead you to my albums.
Cheers, Greg |
