Default Propeller badge - Dutch/Netherlands or RAAF?

Hi there,

I have been finally displaying some badges and buttons collected by my grandfather from WW2. He was a sergeant in the RAAF and was based in Borneo with a Dutch squadron.

Attached is a picture of two propeller badges. The top one is a RAAF Leading Aircraftman badge.

However the bottom one I cannot find anything out about. The closest I have come is some propeller badges from the Netherlands listed on this page: http://www.jkmilitaria.com/Aviation.html

The makers mark on the back is "Stokes" which I believe was a Melbourne manufacturer. Would they be making badges for other countries' armed forces?

So any suggestions? Is it a Dutch Air Force badge of some type? Or something else altogether?

Thanks in advance for any help.

That bottom one is definitely a Dutch East Indies air force badge. Sometimes you find them marked "Amico" as well

Thanks heaps Mike. Much appreciated. Anyone else know what it might signify? Wondering if it would worn by the Dutch equivalent of a leading aircraftman...

Also have subsequently learnt (courtesy of Wikipedia) that the Dutch air force in Borneo during WW2 was called "Military Aviation of the Royal Netherlands East Indies Army (Militaire Luchtvaart van het Koninklijk Nederlands-Indisch Leger) or ML-KNIL. It was the air arm of the Royal Netherlands East Indies Army in the Dutch East Indies (now Indonesia) from 1939 until 1950. It was an entirely separate organisation from the Dutch Air Force.

Thanks again.

You can find an illustration of the Dutch badge here, from a regulation dating back from the 30's.

Ahhh excellent. Thanks. I also have two of the lion badges on that page and two Nederlands shoulder patches similar to the ones show there too.

Will see if I can dig out some pics and post them.

Default Nederland shoulder patch and badge...

As promised a pic of a shoulder patch and badge from the Dutch air force in Borneo during WW2 (Military Aviation of the Royal Netherlands East Indies Army;
Militaire Luchtvaart van het Koninklijk Nederlands-Indisch Leger; ML-KNIL)

Not sure if it is a collar badge or a hat badge...

Looks like a cap badge to me, possibly maker marked on the reverse?
Did they wear collar badges at all?

Rgds, Thomas.

Don't think so. In those times rank badges were worn on the collars.
