Hi All
What is this LP type badge with the hex-lugs? Thanks, cheers, Alex |

Never have seen one like that; but never say never. Those lugs are of course normally found on ST and sometimes collars.

Genuine cap badge. I’ve seen one other before. Also seen a couple 4th pattern Tyneside Scottish cap badges on hex lugs.

Yes I think I've seen this (or similar before) and it's a cap badge. It is NOT a collar badge because only officer's wore collar badges and they would be much better quality than this.
So, it must be WO Pattern 8520/1915 (sometime in the summer/autumn of 1915 - the sealed Patt Card (at TNA) will give the exact date - it was specified with NS loops. Anyway, it was superseded on 23.05.1915 by Pattern 9483/1917 - which specifically had a slider. All OR Lpl Pals were specified to have a 'bronzed' surface - though many have worn off. |

I’m surprised the thought around these badges is that they are genuine.
The badge in the OP is a bit difficult to comment on as a front image has not yet been seen but the blackening does not look right and has run on to the Hex lugs. The badge in Luke’s link belonging to GTB (see image)has the typical South East Asian stolen Baby in the basket that was being flogged by the likes of Badgeman a number of years ago, it also has the pigeon feet. I may well be wrong and there are numerous versions of this badge that are acceptable Paul |

hi Paul, I was going by the specific Pattern. It is therefore a genuine or copy - I wasn't going into that. But I'll go through my Pals badges of that Patt to check on the baby !!

Another thing with the badge I posted which I hadn't really paid attention to before is that the lugs appear to be out of alignment, which would be very awkward.
Cheers, Alex |
