Peter Garratt bought this book and looked through it at length.
His criticisms were:
  • The book is a reprint of the Service Before Self: The History, Badges and Insignia of the Security Forces of the Rhodesias and Nyasaland, 1890-1980 with the same terrible black and white pictures. There are only two pages of colour.
  • Many descriptions are the same as in Service Before Self.
  • There are at least fourteen mistakes.
  • There are at least five fakes shown or said to be genuine.
He wrote to Mark about six weeks ago with some questions and detailing the mistakes. A reply hasn't been received.

I bought a copy of this book, thinking that it was a big upgrade on the last edition, to find that most of it was exactly the same, but with a few added pages. As with all such books, the author relies on various sources which may not always be accurate, but is reflected in good faith. Own personal knowledge and experience always needs to be exercised. Must say I was somewhat disappointed. It does provide a reference, in black and white only.
