Hampshire Carabiniers
I have just received this Hampshire Carabiniers badge in a job lot and I am interested in members thoughts on the "MADE IN ENGLAND" plate on the reverse.
Is this the same manufacturer as the infamous "ENGLAND" sliders? Rob |

Hampshire Carabiniers
Alan, thanks for your reply, this is the first badge I have found with a name plate, were there other Yeomanry with name plates?

Rob I agree with Alan. IMO this is a badge that has been widely restruck from the original die.
Re other maker plates I have a Royal Gloucestershire Hussars IY with a J.R.Gaunt plaque. Also arguably a Sherwood Rangers Yeomanry (if it’s not a GM Ox & Bucks LI) and the voided officers Scottish Horse cap and collar badges, again Gaunt. I’m sure there are more but memory fails me. Name plate
I should have said it's the only "MADE IN ENGLAND" name plate I've seen, lots of the same with "ENGLAND" on the slider, it came with a job lot of badges that were all OK.

I have seen them on Yorkshire Dragoons which were made from an original die

Apologies Rob. Think I’ve seen one of those England plates on a Robin Hoods TF badge. Can’t recall any others off the top of my head. Albeit seeing one is an instant red flag so I pay little to no attention once spotted. Sorry I can’t be of more help.

Hi rob,I have seen a few of these badges with the tablet on,as I mainly collect to the Hampshire's ,in my opinion i don't think it is genuine and as Alan o has stated I to think it is a1970 repro, sorry but as always just my opinion.

Hants Carabiniers
Mike, yes, it's a fake badge from the 1970's or earlier, one of the things I noticed is the metal which is a yellow colour rather like the pre-territorial glengarry badges, this should never be confused with gilding metal.
My main enquiry was the plate which had "MADE IN ENGLAND" on it, this was the first plate like this I'd seen in over sixty years of badge collecting. Maybe I don't get out enough . . ! Rob |
