Question Whatchamacallit

Bit of a daft question really but being a tad confused (more and more frequently these days ) I'd welcome any clarification where possible. I often see posts where members have substituted the word 'eBay' for such things as ‘everyone’s favourite online auction site', or 'e---' [insert derogatory term of choice], or some such other replacement.

I am not entirely sure why this is; please forgive my naivety. Could someone kindly explain the rationale behind this practice?

With thanks,

JT

In my case, as an Ebay business seller, the new terms and conditions of use include not saying anything derogatory about them in public. One has to be circumspect.

Thanks Simon.

Are you a proponent of the term 'favourite online auction site'?

I have used the term 'everyone's favourite auction site' on many occasions and I have clearly had my tongue planted firmly in my cheek every time.

So for no other reason than as a bit of fun. Not because you have any qualms about actually using the word 'eBay'?

I have plenty of qualms but living out in the sticks I have little choice but to use their platform.
