Believed to be Thomas Skelton Glaister (1825-1904). Enjoy, Mick

Another great photo, Mick.
With my eyes, I find that some of these hand tinted photos, though lovely to look at, sometimes seem to lose some of the crispness of detail as often found in old black and white images. Is that a badge on his left sleeve or a smudge on the photo? It appears to be an Enfield short rifle (Pat 1856) that he is holding, sling buckle neatly aligned with the lower barrel band and all, so I imagine they must be sergeants' stripes on his right sleeve. Keep them coming. I Man |

It could well be a Sergeant's rank.
Mick

G'day Mick & Donny
I'd say its a Lancaster smooth / oval bored .577 Sappers and Miners short rifle, I have one marked to the Victorian Volunteers. And yet another great photo Mick. Regards Phil. |
