Default The 'Collector' gene - have you got it?

Just a bit of fun, this.

You've got your hunter/gatherers, and you've got your farmers; my theory is, that as collector-types, we must have all descended from pre-history's hunter/gatherers.

I'd like to bet that as kids, the vast majority of forum members collected (and possibly still do) other things apart from military badges; it's in our genes.

I collected badges (non-military) as a child, and so the progression to military badges was certainly a natural one for me, especially as my Dad was/is also a military badge collector. I collected other stuff too, I couldn't help myself.

What did you collect as a child? What else do you collect?

Peter.

Peter,
No doubt you will get some strange answers to your question but as a contender for the more bizarre items I offer this up.

I used to collect Badger skulls! (yes the black and white mammal Meles meles)

I should of course qualify this by saying they were all part of my work, all gained legally (no cruelty involved) and were used by me in an educational capacity.

I shall now go away and hide.....

Ivan,

I promise to keep the Cringe-O-Meter well out of sight of contributors. Strictly for our studio audience only .

Great start though, and a tough act to follow.

One thing though, Ivan... where are they now?

Like all collections they have to come to an end and be broken up.

I gave them to various members of badger groups, rangers and naturalists to use in their educational activities. Ironically, in my current job, I could do with a couple to illustrate aspects of animal biology, should I start collecting again?

Ivan

I suspect the answer to that, lies in your genes, Ivan .

I used to collect Britsh Empire and European stamps, I then thought it was a brilliant idea to swap three albums of stamps for a ' pea shooter ' and a bag of split peas, great fun I have to say.

Shortly after that I started collecting bruises...................from my old man ??

Dave.

Interesting to see the link to badgers - I was obsessed with beavers in my late teens.

Dave,

I sincerely hope that latter collection was never completed, mate .
