Default Makers Required For These A/A Badges Please

Hi Guys,

The following list of badges are noted as following both maker and manufacturing attributes that give a high degree of authenticity to the piece.

To date though, I have not found any official authorisation to issue them.

Can members please post the rear views of the following badges as I wish to record them in a separate appendix together with some others that I have previously documented. If the badge is without a slider then please post a view of the lug on a downward 45 degree angle.

The badges are:

1. Sherwood Rangers Yeomanry - Scroll "NOTTS SHERWOOD RANGERS YEOMANRY".

2. Birmingham University U.T.C.

3. Sheffield University U.T.C.

4. Sheffield University O.T.C. - Scroll "SHEFFIELD UNIVERSITY O.T.C".

5. University of Wales O.T.C. - Scroll ""UNIVERSITY OTC CARDIFF".

Regards

Chris

Chris

I've got the badges that I've posted pics of below. When you mention the Notts Sherwood Rangers Yeomanry badge do you mean the version with the strap as opposed to the circlet? I have posted pics of the front and back so you can see. I also have a University OTC, Cardiff but it has no makers mark, also posted in case it is of any use.

Default The Sherwood Rangers Yeomanry a/a

Hi Chris

Is this one of interest?

(Sorry, just re-read your post. This not what you want. I have the "Notts" edition but sadly not in a/a!!)

Best wishes

Gordon

Thanks Guys,

All good stuff - just the Sheffield University O.T.C. to go.

Paddy, do you have access to a pair of digital calipers to measure the thickness and width of the slider? If so can you measure it for me.

Also, when looking at the slider tip i.e. from the bottom of the badge can you tell me what surfaces of the slider are curved. From the photo it looks like the top and bottom edges are flat while the short sides are curved. Can you confirm this for me please.

Many Thanks all!!!

Regards

Chris

Chris

I haven't got digital calipers, just good old fashioned vernier ones. I'll have a look tomorrow in better light and see what I can find.

Chris

As you suspected the top and bottom sides are flat and the short sides are curved. I have attached a couple of pics and hopefully you can see this a bit more clearly. The slider is 5.92mm wide and 1.44mm thick. Hopefully this helps. There is also a large scratch (or manufacturing mark) running the full length of the slider.

OK Paddy,

It is more than likely a late Smith & Wright slider exhibiting all the characteristics of the 'Shark Head' type by this company probably post 1961.

This is an obscure badge and I have very little information on it.

Thanks for helping out here!!!

Regards

Chris
