The Duke of Wellington's Regiment White Metal with Blades.
Thoughts on this one please?
Of two pieces, the "West Riding" scroll's attached to the crest by tabs (I think the upper blade has been broken off and neatly repaired with a small amount of solder prior to being broken off again). |

Nice looking badge. looks to be an OR badge but on blades! I have 3 examples of this badge, 2 OR`s and an officers, all on lugs! Are the blades original or could it have had lugs prior to the blades being fitted?

I don't know what to make of this badge. It is actually of very poor quality, virtually smooth in sections of the reverse; voids have not been completed etc. The scroll looks to be from a fresher die than the rest of the badge.
No sign of lugs that I can see. CB

No, no signs of lugs having been fitted.
The badge is'nt of great quality, as said there's a lack of detail to the back and no crispness to ithe striking. The tails of the pennon are blunt, stubbier than on bimetal versions that I have or see illustrated. Neat enough jobs have been made of attaching scroll and blades. |

To me it looks like there’s a loss of reverse detail on the indicated scrolls which I think is possibly from braze overspill which has then been chromed over.
On the virtitutas scroll the reverse impression of the ‘I’ and ‘S’ are visible but others obscured. All the lettering on the middle scroll is also visible making me think something has filled in the reverse detail on the scrolls either side. Both scrolls are where loops would be. So I suspect it’s a looped OR’s badge which has had them removed and N-S blades fitted before being chromed. Why. Dunno. |

Could be, though I hav'nt scratched to find out if it's plated.
It hadn't occurred to me that it's plated, it has the appearance of a "normal" w/m badge. A neat, careful job of "converting" a poor quality OR's badge to an officer's for reasons nefarious or otherwise? (Officer "loses" badge, visits the workshop for quick cheap replacement, wants badge to fit n/s piercings in his forage cap? Dunno........) |

Definitely not chromed as the color if the metal indicates and also the verdigris present, which does not normally occur like that on chrome. It does not appear to be plated to my eyes. A proper cleaning may reveal more.

Most likely nickel plated not chrome and agree with Luke it's a plated conversion.
