Talking Well worn Devon Title WWII? opinion

Hi Friends

Well worn Devon CST, embroidered on felt, compared with other Devon titles in store and this seemed to be the odd lettered and straight title-got me thinking if this was a cut down Dorset& Devon CST of the 50's?

As it is xmas eve in NZ, I'm hoping this would be my XMAS present, an officers title worn by the 6th Air Landing Brigade-6th Abn Div Normandy involved in heavy fighting!!!

All opinions welcomed.

cheers and a Very Merry Xmas from a warm Summer here in NZ to all forum members.

Phill

Hi Phill

It should be easy to tell if its a cut down D&D as the "Devon" is smaller.

From the start of the D to the end of the N

D&D 38mm

Devon 61mm

Hope this helps
Rob

Thanks Rob

Yes the measurement from D-N is 61mm!!

Could that mean its is WWII era or Post WWII?

much appreciated.

I believe they were worn long after WW2, and it could have been cut down for a number of reasons, but I have not seen a photo of a cut down version in use so it would only be speculation to start guessing.

Hi Phill

Its probably more likely to be wartime when there were a lot more Devons wearing titles than after the war.

It technically is cut down in that its smaller than it was, but its been so roughly/badly cut its difficult to believe it was done during service when a member of this proud Westcountry Regiment should have made more of an effort.

Maybe it was removed from a uniform and the remover didn't bother to unstitch it leaving the edges behind, or maybe it was so rotten around the edges they were trimmed back?

Its not a rare badge so in this condition without a "special" provenance here in Devon it would be worth practically nothing.

But its still interesting how it came to be in New Zealand in this condition.

Thanks Rob.

Would you have examples of WWII embroidered Devon titles? I take it the paste back ones were legit war time era.

I believe this has been in a scrapbook , so its been removed a few times in its history.

Yes I agree this is practically worth nothing due to its condition , I will look for a better one maybe a printed version.

Much appreciated with your help Rob.

Phill
