I have no idea about the button. But when you think that this belongs to a regiment with number 73 from the Indian subcontinent, then there only was one of the kind. Thus not very confusing I think

73rd Carnatic Infantry

1903 redesignated a such from 13th Madras Regiment.
1922 redesignated as 1st Battalion, 3rd Madras Regiment.

(See: 3rd Madras Regiment)

Thank you. I was hoping to get a date from the back-mark but can't find anything about B. Bullmore. There was another 73rd regiment [of Bengal Native Infantry] formed in 1825 but disbanded after taking part in the Great Mutiny of 1857. However your button is more likely to be the later Carnatic Infantry.

David.

David.
I stand corrected. Indeed
1825: 5th Extra Regiment of Bengal Native Infantry > 1850: 73rd Regiment of Bengal Native Infantry > 1857: mutinied.

Sorry about this omission.
