Smile 2nd Battalion, DLI Colour Party

Hi all,

Nice crisp postcard of The Colour Party, 2nd Battalion DLI posted in 1905, 1906 or 1908 (as hard to tell from postmark) from Cork to family in North Yorkshire by a W. Davidson. A W. Davison served with the 2nd Battalion in 1915 in the honour roll as a 2nd Lieutenant but may be a coincidence.

From John Sheen's excellent book "The Steel of the DLI" 2nd Batt DLI in 1914-1918 the 2nd Batt were sent to Cork in October 1905 and stayed until 1908. They were issued the new .303 Lee Enfield rifle in 1906.

They appear to be wearing a mix of QVC and KC helmet plates. The helmet plate centre is a bugle as are their collar badges, cannot make out shoulder titles.

Cheers Dean
