Default Display Quandary

Have just rigged my pre 1881, 1st and 2nd VB display cabinets.

Am not 100% happy with the end result, I'm not sure that they look right. Are the badges too cramped? Do the shelves look a bit cluttered? (I appreciate the photographs are not good and the flash doesn't do the badges justice).

I could ask my wife for an opinion but doubt I would get a meaningful response so thought I would throw it open to the views of the forum.

Any thoughts? Ivan

Only my opinion but I think larger badges look better on a coloured backing.

Thanks for the replies, I think you may have got it there chaps, its a suitable back ground thats missing, maybe a background to the cabinets might work.

Fixing badges to boards is not for me purely as I like to handle the badges and examine them from time to time although they do look good mounted.

I'll have to experiment and see how what different backgrounds look like.

Ivan, I like your method of displaying your badges, and the use of the little clear stands to set the badges on. I also do not think it looks over crowded, but draws attention of people wanting to see what all is in there.

I display some of my Old West and Cowboy Action Shooting pieces in a glass cabinet, and am sharing pictures so you can see it too is quite crowded with bits. The prize of this lot is the cased piece of the original wall of the OK Corral in Tombstone, AZ which was sent ot me by the owner. Yes it looks like an ordinary piece of dirt, but it is adobe. I tried putting a cloth cover on the top shelf, but in my cabinet, it being small, it took away from the bottom shelf. Anyway, sharing these to let you see another example of items displayed in a glass cabinet.

Hello Terry. Good to see your displays. It would be great to be able to click and enlarge them as you can most on the forum, but you get directed to the photobucket sign up page if you click on your images. Regards, Paul.

Paul, If there is a way to add pictures without having to use a third party service, I could allow for them to be enlarged. But from what I am understanding to load to a post you have to go to a third party for the URL, but for the albums you don't??? If I'm wrong, please tell me how and I will reload the pictures.

Thanks,

Terry

Very nice collection and display Ivan.

May I ask what you have the large WM rose identified as?

Terry,

On your PC try this:
To add a picture click on ‘Go Advanced’ then ‘Attach Files - Manage Attachments’ then ‘Upload File from your computer’ - ‘Choose File’ which allows you to browse for images, select the image(s) and then click ‘Upload’
Pictures should attach as enlargeable thumbnails.

Luke, Its an 8th Yorkshire, West Riding Rifle Volunteer Corps, Officers Pouch badge (as seen in Dixon Pickup's book History of the West York Rifle Volunteers).

Thanks Ivan. Is this it on the black background? It’s die stamped WM on 2 toned black loops and is 51mm in diameter.

I bought it as it appeared to be the same die as Derbyshire Imperial Yeomanry slouch hat badge which is found in bronzed GM finish (light background).

Don't think its the same Luke, mine is 60mm across and has screw posts. Judging by the rear, I would say its cast?

Ivan

(apologies for the poor pictures)

That’s wonderful Ivan, thank you.

Definitely not the same badge.

When I bought it it was a bit of a mystery and I recall possibility of it being a West Yorkshire pouch badge was mentioned but I could never pin down which RV or Bn. You’ve solved it for me and I think I can now definitely rule that one out as a contender.

The 21st Lancers wore a similar rose to mine on the czapka but I’m told by Keith Hook it was either plated on GM or in silver and on long screw posts.

So… I suppose there is still the chance it is WM Derbyshire I.Y. as I originally hoped.

Thanks again and a lovely collection.
