Hi All,

any suggestions on how to store a beret please. Are they ok in plastic zip lock bags or do they need to breath ?

Having failed to find any other bags suitable I use zip locker or similar freezer bags for berets, sidecaps and forage caps.
Condensation could be a problem but I've come across it only when I've left the things laying in the sun.
Although the shaping of the beret is lost I'd store them flat as folding leather, plastic or fabric bands can easily lead to cracking and fraying.

Moths and silverfish are the main problems.
Leather should be okay if kept away from heat and moisture.
I have mine in zip lock bags and use cedar balls and lavender as extra protection.

I wrap mine inside and out in conservator tissue paper, and add half a Cedar Wood ring to each bag.

Silica gel products are very useful, for small boxed/packed items, and even in wardrobes and cupboards.

I use zippy bags and cedar wood balls for berets and side caps.

For forage/dress/service dress caps I place cedar balls inside the sweatband, those not on display are in large sealed tubs.

Just the large clear plastic storage tubs sold by cheap shops and DIY stores

Ta, youre talking about circular drum type containers with lids that seal? Not something I've really noticed other than in some stores selling foodstuffs.

Dear all,

Interesting topic. I personally store my berets in freezer bags, that allow to protect them from the insects and smells. At this point, no issue in terms of damages potentially caused by the plastic material, even during the summer time.

Keep them out of the sun though, I've made the mistake of leaving one or two out in the sun and condensation formed in the bags.

Some brands of bags have opaque panels printed on the side for labeling contents, handy for noting basic details of the berets unit, manufacturer, date etc.

Thank you for the advice. The bags are stored in a box, stored in a closet. And not a lot of sun where I live

I also display some berets in frames. The rendering is ok, but I am afraid to place them out of the closet, due to the risk of discolouration.

Yes there are also some printed labels on those bags. But I never used them yet.

Nice looking arrangements.

I bought one of these a while back, thinking of using it for storing sidecaps (individually sealed in their freezer bags), gave it a try but it wasn't right for where I needed it, would be good on the "right" door.
