Default Royal marines red backing

Hello! I know that blue RM berets wear the red tombstone...I know (thanks to Irv who is the owner of the beautiful FS cap I show in this thread) that FS caps in kakhi (not blue) wore too...but I was wondering if the GS cap in Royal marines wore too the red backing (in case they used the Gs cap) Thank you!

As far as I know, the Royal Marines never wore the GS cap. They went straight to berets after the FS cap - green for Commandos and blue for all other marines.

Here's an OR's example, note the half moon shaped cap stiffener only found on RM berets.

Thanks a lot for the info, but I am afraid my wonderful days buying in UK are finished...last month I bought three badges in here to a great member of the forum...he sent me marked as a gift in a little envelope, and thanks to the brexit, customs take It and asked me for 37€ just for giving me that little envelope . Even marked as a gift! (now the badges must be travelling back to UK) I don't want to know how much would ask me customs for a cap! (In fact a week before I bought a headset in eBay UK, taxes included, and customs ask me for 27€ more just because came from UK... HORRIBLE)

Interesting topic. Here is my RM cap, for illustration.

Best regards,

A nice cap - are the buttons "dog in a basket", or a different design please?

Thanks, I wondered what the design would be, if the buttons would be as per the forage cap.

Morning chaps,

What Steve Britton told me is that the Royal Marines red tombstone cloth patch is not put on it during manufacturing but given separately to be sewn on the beret later. The blue berets were admirality issue which were rugby ball shaped and no leather patch behind grommets. Obviously no WD stamp.

Cheers JB
