Pre WW2 or WW2 Canadian economy badge?
A recent eBay purchase but now I’m not so sure what I have? Based on the red central jewel is it a pre WW2 RAF officer’s cap badge or WW2 Canadian economy issue?

Hi Paul. The quality of the associated parts are not from a Canadian economy issue.

The eagle points to a British made badge, with the teardrop more common to the early to mid 1930s. This is not strictly an economy badge (which came in in 1944 due to a lack of bullion wire for badges of all three services. It's a manufacturers variation, and not especially rare. A very nice example.
Canadian badges generally have a distinctly fat eagle! |

Thanks everyone. I initially thought it was pre WW2 RAF when I saw the listing but when it arrived I wasn’t so sure, mainly because of the crown which is of two part construction and the glass jewels. It just looked better quality than some of the others of the period I had seen.

This is an illustration, of a bullion type, from the May 1929 RAF Dress Regulations for Officers, also featuring (on a cap) in the November 1935 update.
In the December 1939 update the shape is changed to the more familiar style. |
