Brass Black Watch?
This topic comes up from time to time. I wanted to add this example. Brass with the Sphinx flaw. It appears to be naturally aged, face is worn from polishing, has the right “feel”, and has a replaced lug. One lug is the stamped type. A lot of work to be a fake. Canadian?....or could this be an actual economy version? Or...just a really good fake?

Defiantly not 1916. The BW badge was made in w/m throughout the war and is not on the list, nor meets the criteria for, of all brass badges.

It is likely the Canadian WW1 CEF period badge for the 42nd Battalion / early 73rd Battalion. Came in Browning Brass as well as Browning copper, some had flat sheet cut lugs, like this one has one remaining. Finish has been removed, pretty poor condition but very likely original.
