Found this pic today, still not sure what the badge was worn for. Maybe to distinguish between army cadets and regular troops?

Hi
It is called the Elgin Patch, similar to one of which I picked up some time ago within some other items, I thought it was Scottish(British) at first but could only find a reference (which I found by accident)to the St. Thomas Cadet Corps.
I am unsure if any other unit wore the patch but do remember they are associated with Combat Engineers.
Sorry I cant be of much more help.
Paul

It is the Bruce tartan, for James Bruce, Lord Elgin. The counties of Elgin and Bruce were named in his honour. The Elgin Regiment used the Bruce tartan.
