Default U.D.F.S. - U.V.M.S. shoulder title.

I am struggling to identify a shoulder title with the two sets of initials. U.D.F.S. - U.V.M.S.

Clearly United Defence Force are the first three of the initials in English, but what is the fourth? Signals? Can anyone please enlighten me?

Yes, definitely South African as it has the two sets of initials in the usual South African style, English and Dutch.

I will post a picture tomorrow.

Thank you.

Looking at Wikipedia it could date from anytime between 1912 and 1957 when it became the South African Defence Force.

The badge is South African,

Union Defence Force Staff
Worn 1921-1922 Only

The shoulder title is shown in Colin Owens Book as number 2271

U.V.M.S is the Afrikaans translation

Thank you very much for the positive identification, it is appreciated.

Good to know that it was a relatively short lived shoulder title. I rarely stumble across South African items in this part of the world but when I do, they all seem to be out of the ordinary.

Not a problem, i actually collect Soith African shoulder titles, the one in the photo is from my collection

Its a nice title and does not come up that often for sale, and when it does they quite pricey
I saw one the other day being sold for 40 Euro
