Advice re small collection
Hi All,
A friend has bought this collection of ammo uk badges and is wondering if he should get it insured. His post was: I need to insure the collection below but need a ball park price. This is a complete collection of British Army cap badges 1964-1992 (Pre options for change). Every badge is either nickel or brass and one sterling silver (RALC). The RA badge also has a rotating gun carriage wheel. I bought them in mid 80s from a flyer in Soldier magazine getting a couple a month over a few years. Can anyone help please. I know the picture is pants and I suspect I know the answer but I was wondering if anyone can give any advice. He is going to get better photos if they are needed. Thanks, Michael |

Michael, to be honest there are a lot of Ammo UK badges out there on the market. I would just include it in the house insurance but others may disagree.

Most are available on eBay priced for a few quid each. not worth insuring separately I’m afraid

Thanks Both,
That was pretty much my thoughts. They seem to range between £1 and £20 but generally at the cheaper end of the scale so even at £5 each that's £450 for the 90. Does that sound fair? Michael |

For interest there were four issues of these badge sets from Military Mailwise. The badges were sourced from various manufacturers including Firmin and Ammo UK. Here are the flyers from the first and second issues. Badges cost £8.95 for two in the first issue and £11.95 for two in the second issue which also included a book by John Gaylor.

House and Contents insurance covers the collection if it is made known to the Insurer, no need to list separately (each badge) just say a collection of badges at £500 - £1000, they may or may not ask for more details?

Also worth stating if one badge is lost it will not have any real effect on the total value of the collection
