doesanyone recognize this regiment?
Hi, the attached is a photograph of my grandfather on active service in WW1. I believe that he was in an Artillery regiment, does anyone recognize the capbadge and/or shoulder insignia?

Well it's not Royal Artillery.

It looks vaguely like a Middlesex Regt CapB ? The shoulder title look as if it might be a grenade over a name? Difficult one - at least from a picture quality point of view. Sorry. |

WW1 Photo
Well from the shape of the cap badge, I would say it was the Essex Rgt. The shoulder titles could be T/8/ESSEX, which were the cyclist Battn. The fact that he is wearing a leather bandolier makes me think he was in a territorial unit.
It's always a shame that shoulder titles are not more visible, that would take a lot of the guesswork out of unit ID. |

This is just a guess, looks like a grenade over a number over a name which seems too long to be Essex. No idea of what the cap badge is. Ray

I agree with Sonofacqms on this one, definitely Essex Territorial in this photo.
He may well have become an Artilleryman later on though ? Cheers ! Steve |

Hello Dave, Here's another approach. Try the National Archives Medal cards as he likely received a medal (s) for his WWI service. The cards will list his unit. As I imagine you know his full name just go to thislink:http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/d...=*&queryType=1 Good hunting! (Terra Nova)
