Default Set of 7 badges, any advice appreicated,

Evening All, I’ve recently been given a set of badges which had originally come from eBay, and I’m currently in the process of sorting out which badges are good and bad. Using previous posts on the forum I’ve managed to determine that 4 are good and one is a fake, however I’ve now got a handful of them that I don’t feel confident enough to make a call on either way.

I’ve put a list of them below (as well as the pictures) with my own thoughts on them. Any help would be greatly appreciated. If people also have any tips or "red flags" to look out for on badges like these in the future, then that would be of great help as well.

Thanks in advance.

Joe
  1. Labour/Pioneer Corps - Looks like it’s been polished to within an inch of its life, can’t tell if it’s original though.
  2. Royal Berkshire - Looks fine to me, just looking for confirmation on this one.
  3. 9th Lancers - Looks okay to me, but I’ve seen more experienced members call out fakes and I can’t tell what the issue is with them either.
  4. Royal Army Service Corps. (Slider) - From what I’ve read there were quite a few variations in this badge, so really not sure
  5. Royal Army Service Corps. (Lugs) - Same thoughts as the other RASC badge. I don’t know if it’s a factor but the crown on this one is not voided either.
  6. The Life Guards - okay for the most part, but some of the voiding around the cipher looks a little off to me, and one of the lugs is mounted at an odd angle.
  7. The Hampshire Regt. - I like this one the least. The lack of voiding on the inside of the tail, the wreath doesn’t meet at the top, no sweat holes on the back, and some of the detail on the rose isn’t very good. I’ve seen 4 other examples of good ones on the site, and none of them feature any of the above.

I think the 9th lancers is a fake, have a look at the forum makers marks section. Has a bit about this makers mark.

I think you're right too, compared it against that top left example on the J.R. Gaunt page and it matches. Thanks.

The Hants looks ok; a rather crude strike typical of many ww2 badges.

Thanks CB, the thought that it might have just been a more rough badge did cross my mind, however as I could not find any examples of similar quality I assumed the worst (in which case, I can't be disappointed with the findings ).

Have you got/seen other examples of the Hants that are more on the crude side?

I've also attached a couple more photos of it, if that helps.

Andy, what tells us the Life Guards is a fake. I have one and not sure if it's a good one or not, nor what to look for.

Thanks,

Terry

Hi Terry
The main give away on the Life Guards( and other badges of this type) is the way the V is , as with this example the V is for want of a better description not hanging free so “touching “ the R , it should be hanging really only with the V tips giving support, hope that make sense

Does anyone have any further comments/help with any of the badges? Especially for any of those that so far haven't had much discussion (1,2,4,5). Thanks in advance

Thanks both! Appreciate it.

Glad that this thread has helped some other people out too, even if it hasn't been the best news.
