Default LRDG S/T (WALLIS AND WALLIS)

Just seen how much they went for (lot 657) a mind boggling £3200 and that excludes the additional cost at around 27%.

His medals went for £4400 (no gallantry medals) just basic war medals - alto did have a Korea medal with the Glosters.

His photo album went for £2600 and his cap badge for £1150.

Hopefully all this money went to his family.

£3200 (AUD $5899)
Add the 27% and it comes to £4064 (AUD$ 7483)
Yep! Mad!

Lot 657
A pair of rare Long Range Desert Group hand embroidered slip on shoulder titles, and an embroidered SAS parachute wings, removed from uniform. GC.

Hi, it was very interesting to watch, a shame the group had been split as they didn't all go to the same buyer. Mike

Default LRDG

Did anyone, by any chance, save images of the items in these lots? If so it would be great to see them. Mike

Hello Mike et al

The lots were a little short of illustrations but I saved these images - at the time they were all that was available. I guess attribution adds a great deal but a very strong price I would have thought. Not that I know much about medals but I guess the Korea Medal would be named - coupled with Gloucester's - must add some value

Regards

Mike

AUD$8145 was the price for the medals w/o commission. That would almost buy a Silver Cross of Rhodesia group which was the second highest for gallantry. Fully attributable like all Rhodesian post '65 medals with official stamping. At only 32 awarded slightly rarer than LRDG groups and very desirable to collectors of those medals.
IMO has always been a problem with Brit WWII gongs not being stamped.

Money aside, the 27.6% commission and splitting the group was enough to put me enough. What's happening to the collecting game

Perhaps the collecting game has become part of the Investment Game ?
