The book is called Izzat, it has 827 pages over 2000 photos of Insignia. Full of excellent information, what is brillian abou this book it carries on after 1947 by showing you the currant units of the Indian and Pakistan Cavalry, limited to just 500 worldwide.
If you are an Indian badge collector this is the book for you. The book cost £100...well worth it!

Dave
The Bulletin of the Military Historical Society lists the books as follows:

Izzat. Historical Records and Iconography of Indian Cavalry Regiment 1750-2007.

It is published by the Institution of New Delhi with a limited edition of 500. Priced at GBP 85

828 pages with 2000 illustrations.

The Bulletins comment:

"This book is rightly described as a labour of love and is essential to those seeking insight into the subject".

Cheers
Mark

Hi,

Can any owners of this work tell me if it covers other insignia items e.g. belt plates/buckles, shoulder titles etc or is it only headress badges?
Any assistance greatly appreciated.

Regards,
Greg

Hi, it's sub title is"Historical Records and Iconocgraphyof Indian Cavalry Regiments 1750-2007" and it just about does what it says on the tin. You get most pouch and waist belt plates, pouch and headdress badges, shoulder titles and buttons. Plus lots more like horse furniture, though not all. Mostly photographs of the later bits. Some of the earlier bits are line drawings, but very well done. Some units only get a history and a description of their uniform as badges not known, such as Oudh Irregular Force, raised1856-mutinied 1857. I think it has to be the definitive work on Indian Cavalry to date and I don't think anything will be produced to equal it. Though one can always ask for more. Mike

Having just asked about a book on Indian badges I found this post. I should have scrolled down further. BTW.. are all of the illustrations in B&W or are there any colour pages?

I met the author last week and he had a copy with him which i had a quick look at, and told him he was getting decent reviews on this site. I thought the book very useful. Phil.

Hi, this is the first of three books, infantry and then corps and other units to follow. If they are anything like Izzat the Indian collectors should be very pleased. Mike

A bit more detail added to the forum bibliography for posterity:

http://www.britishbadgeforum.com/boo..._1750_2007.htm

(now out of stock at the publishers, I've imported 3 copies. My Indian book dealer is looking for a fourth copy)

This is much more than just a 'badge book'. Very impressive.
