To me..... the badge looks like its got years of grease an grime on a gilt wash...... and the scroll appears to be a silver plate? The vinegar will cut through all of that and reveal the gilt. (after rinsing with a tooth brush and warm soapy water).

I have a hunch its an old collar (Pre WW1).

Hi Griff,

it meases 48mm high by 44mm wide at the scroll ends. Can it still be possibly a collar ?
