Default Crossed Rifles & Crown Trade Badge

I posted this badge some years ago without any definite response. Obviously a post-war version of a much earlier badge perhaps something awarded at Bisley?

I think it's best rifle shot in the company or regiment .
Theres certainly a similar badge in the Light Infantry colours ,green on maize. I was told it was for the Somerset and Cornwall Light Infantry.

Jon Mills refers to your badge as having being never adopted on page 1112 of his book. Mine may also have been unoffical and never offically worn.

Interesting, bear in mind the SCLI only existed for 10 years during the Brigade period. They had no TA Btns either, both county names carried on separately. If I recall correctly, they didn't spend very much of that time in the UK. They served in Berlin and Gibraltar away from prying eyes . Theres a similar one for the LMG.

It seems odd that it wasnt official, the star over crossed rifles was worn in some regts for best shot in a company. I have a few examples of them.

Some pictures of the badges in use Mike would be confirmation but as you suggest at Regimental level unoffical badges were worn at times.

ive just had a look Marc, couldnt see anything. No1 jacket was red with a white Royal Marines style helmet. The service dress appeared similar to a No2 dress style but in blue worn with a green beret.

The badges existed but not as late as 1952 to get a Queens Crown. The question is who was using the version I posted post-war if indeed at all. I would still wonder if it is something presented or just sold at Bisley events.
