FANY
Is there just two variations of the FANY shoulder title? Both are machine embroidered with one variation being a straight shoulder title and the other an arced shoulder title?

What time period are you asking about, and can you show pictures front and back?
This is the title they currently wear as the QRVC/FANY FANY 1.jpg Princess Anne 3.jpg Princess Anne, hte Royal Commander of the Corps. fany-worn-by-free-fanys---ww2-blue-on-maroon--embroidered-sew-on-army-cloth-shoulder-title.jpg WW2 Title worn by the Free FANYs (i.e. those FANYs not in he WTS/ATC) Terry |

Terry, all I have is this scan. I presume it is circa WW II.

Ah, OK, that is the WW2 ATS/Women's Transport Service title. Those previous members of the FANY who joined he ATS prior to September 1941 were allowed to wear this title. i have read that many young girls who joined but had not been FANYs were disappointed upon joining that would not be allowed to wear it.
This title comes in two basic versions. A buff-cream colored version with the dark red lettering, and akhakaik version with the dark red lettering. It is my understanding that the cream-buff title was the original issue, but I have no data to back that up. I can say that they are harder to come by, having several of the khaki versions in my collection, but only one cream-buff version. I have never seen a curved version of this title, but I have seen both square ends and rounded ends, and with no specific data that I have found, I assume that was either the makers distinction or the wearers choice. Terry PS - there are fakes out there, of at least the khaki version. |
