Glider Regiment Collecting Guide??? Exist???
I am trying to find a good and comprehensive book to understand the Insignia worn by the glider pilots of the glider regiment. I am an aviation collector mainly, military of course, and I am creating my RAF and Glider Regiment library right now. Any help would be truly appreciated and thank you for your valuable time Gentlemen and Lady collectors.

As far as I'm aware there is no dedicated book on the GPR but you could benefit from buying a copy of Oliver Lock's British Airborne Insignia which covers them in detail.

I second the recommendation of Oliver Lock's book. Probably the best reference on the subject so far.

Recommendations r.e. The Glider Pilot Regiment
Would definitely concur that for the insignia of the British Glider Pilot Regiment, that Oliver Lock’s book, “British Airborne Insignia”, is currently the best single reference available. Albeit a bit expensive, it is well worth the investment.
Personally would also recommend the following two books for a detailed history of the regiment; “GLIDER PILOTS AT ARNHEM”, M. Peters & L. Buist, Pen & Sword Military, South Yorkshire, England, 2009, ISBN 978 1 84415 763 1 “The History of THE GLIDER PILOT REGIMENT”, C. Smith, Leo Cooper, London, England, 1992, ISBN 0 85052 326 5 If you are so inclined, you also may be interested in the following articles I have compiled for my blog page. http://arnhemjim.blogspot.com/2012/0...on-market.html http://arnhemjim.blogspot.com/2013/0...-regiment.html http://arnhemjim.blogspot.com/2015/1...operation.html http://arnhemjim.blogspot.com/2011/0...der-pilot.html http://arnhemjim.blogspot.com/2011/0...-hamilcar.html http://arnhemjim.blogspot.com/2014/0...milcar-mk.html Arnhem Jim Arizona Territory Last edited by Arnhemjim; 21-08-16 at 01:38 AM. |

I have just been looking through Peter Harclerode's Go to It: An Illustrated History of the 6th Airborne Division and have noticed that it has quite a few good, clear shots of glider pilots and their equipment that may be of some use to you. Cheers.

Despite previous comments given the inaccuracy of descriptions - don't overlook the IWM Collections of photographs and items.
Here is the items link - which could be refined further through filters relating to types of media http://www.iwm.org.uk/collections/se...ms_per_page=10 Beware of inaccuracies though ... Mike |
