Default Does anyone do a re lugging service

Hi Folks

I have one or two brass titles and collar badges that have had their lugs broken off.
Is there any recommendations of who can do the repairs?
Cheers
Sean

If you still have the lugs, you might be able to do this yourself if you have a soldering kit. Or if not, you might know someone who could... as long as they have the equipment and a little bit of practice.

It is not as easy as is suggested. Normal electricians solder is not very effective, you need a particular type. In addition the heat needs to be a particular level. There are also issues in connection with the type of metals to be joined. If you are not careful you could damage the badge or even destroy it. I would suggest an epoxy resin or similar. Far better to be safe than sorry.

Dave.

Ah right. I've never tried before so I didn't know, but I was thinking just touching the soldering iron on the badge where the lug goes, then on the end of the lug , reconnecting them and leaving to set.

I use flux, silver solder, then acid dip to clean flux of, then amo gas to age the repair.

Same here, it’s easy after a bit of practice. They key is to have clean, rubbed down and bright joining surfaces. Silver solder will never replicate braze though, I’m still to find something that will.
