Silver Cape Police Badge
Does anyone recognise the silver CP badge that came with this medal group? It resembles the Boer War slouch hat badge (Owen 1844) but has fine engraving on it. It has a brooch fastener and I wondered whether it might be a Boer War sweetheart brooch.

Hi DB
I think you are probably right. Cheers, Alex |

I agree with Alex, in that you are probably correct.
What ever it's history, it really is a beautiful piece, wouldn't mind such a thing myself. Any chance of a dedicated photo of it front/back? Cheerio, Roy

It is a Cape Police slouch hat badge and almost certainly made in King Williams Town, certainly not a sweetheart brooch!

Thank you Frank. Would it be post Boer War?
Roy, There are front and back images on the Anglo-Boer War forum at http://www.angloboerwar.com/forum/21...14-cape-police |

No, Anglo Boer War, floriated details were certainly not uncommon, in particular with the Cape silversmiths and jewellers, you do encounter it from time to time, but, a good and rare badge, I like it very much.

This is an awesome badge. Silver badges were very often made in the Eastern Cape during the Boer War. Thank you for sharing. Regards Andrew
