I am looking for an example of this formation sign. It may be bullion wire or silk embroidered.

does not appear in any Canadian Army Order of Battle, and did not even last long enough for its members to put on the unit’s horned-helmet shoulder patch

If so , there would not have been many :

Within a fortnight 267 volunteers from the division were training ......

Within days of the commencement of training instructors whittled the large group of volunteers down to its official strength of 190 all ranks.

Training started in mid March 1942 .

Dieppe raid 19th August 1942.

In the aftermath of the disastrous raid no effort was made to resurrect Viking Force

Good question Mike. There is this image of one, but it is not clear if it was a pattern, private purchase etc.

I saw the article that included the image and the unit was also mentioned in "We Will Find A Way - The Canadian Special Operations Legacy" by Colonel (Retired) Bernd Horn, PhD.

From what I read they were never really a "unit" as they ended up being involved in the training of others and attached to the battalions in 4 and 6 Brigades.

Therefore, before Viking Force was even fully established, BGS Simonds had already laid the blueprint for their demise.

Major McCool and his cadre became instructors for the others. In this regard, from the end of May to the beginning of July the Viking Force cadre became key to the efforts to help 4 and 6 Brigades master the rigours of amphibious warfare.
