Default 1st Bucks VRC - What Colour Boss Please?

Recently pick up this nice little item for my own collection and now require a Boss to mount it on! Can anyone please confirm the colour and shape? I suspect Red? But round or oval Boss?

Andy

Andy,

I saw this with its other badges and they certainly looked good.

the photo below is post 1908 but more or less the same as worn pre- 1908. Reproduced in Westlake's Territorial Battalions he states the uniform is dark grey with a scarlet collar.

I would therefore suggest the oval boss was also red.

regards

Round would mean officers, but oval might mean Off or OR - I have some information somewhere that I'll try and fid for you.

I have both Astrakhan (Officers) and Seal Skin (OR) Victorian busby's with oval bosses but dont recall seeing a round one on a Rifles Busby.

In a quick look, I cannot see it mentioned in the series of articles on Cord Bosses by Irv Mortenson in Crown Imperial in the 1980`s.

Peter,
many thanks, I'm pretty sure it is an original item, perhaps just missed?

Andy

No Andy,

All I meant was, the article gives the colours of a number of bosses ( both the ones in the authors collection and those members of C.I. had or were aware of ) but it does not profess to deal with every boss. The article would have been a means of finding the colour of the boss, the fact that it is not mentioned does not mean it is not genuine.
