Default Id for Skill at Arms Badges?

I have also had a query about this badge, which I asume is for marksmanship - but why the crown and "star" appendages?

They are Army Cadet Skill At Arms badges indicating Marksman (Crown) and 1st Class (Star). (There is a third with only the rifle, indicating a Pass) It used to be that khaki background was for the Cadet Rifle and Red was for the .22 target rifle. Now, however all are red background with an identifying, separate tag for the weapon.
