Default Help on these badges please 14th Bn (Young Citizens), 1st pattern Tyneside Scottish

Hello,

I would appreciate any help on these badges that i have been offered recently. Reading through old threads it looks like there is a few fake ones here but i would like a second opinion on them to be sure.

Kind regards

Stuart

The Lonsdale on the right sans tablet is genuine. I suspect the loops may have been replaced. One on the left is fake.

14th RIR (YCV) - left badge is fake, middle genuine, right is the older fake.

Manchester Pals is genuine.

First pattern Tyneside Scottish is also genuine. Loops may have been replaced.

Hello all, Happy New Yew Year. It's been some time since I've posted on the forum, but of late I have had some time to look into some badges I need and have some extra time to catch up.

I wanted to start a new one as I mentioned, but tagging on to this one I hope is OK.

Recently saw this sell on a popular auction site.......

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/204594756835

.........and was wondering what the more knowledgeable have to say on its validity. Went for what I believe is £50 to £ 75 less than an origin would get based on some of the comments on various threads.

All the best and regards
Simon.

Hello Simon. Good to see you back. I was put off by the crown not being voided. Like you, I would be interested in other opinion. Regards, Paul.

Hi Paul, how are you. Yes, seems I'm drifting back into the badge hobby again.....and trying to fill the final ones to the collection.

As regards the 14th badge......Yes, I saw that the lack of voiding. I thought the fact also it had an extruded slider was a positive, but I might be wrong on that and that the crown base was narrow.

look forward to other comments.

Regards
Simon

Genuine.

Was from a correct die, first I’ve seen on an extruded slider, unusual the solid crown perhaps a Friday afternoon job. Nothing about it causes me any concerns or sets off alarm bells.

£150-200 is what most dealers charge in my experience so it wasn’t cheap.

Hi Luke, how's things.

Thanks for that, and yes the slider is what caught my eye, and from what I can remember over the years...... a good sign for WW1.

As regards the badge itself, based on what I've read so far on other threads; I wouldn't be able to make a decision either way. I've seen soon narrow crowns described as fake.

Cheers
Simon.

Slider looks to have been only about 50% attached. Regards, Paul.

The fake with the narrower crown is below. It is the older fake which is also top right of the YCV group in the opening post in this thread.

The eBay badge doesn’t have a narrow crown by comparison it is I suspect the perspective of the photo looking up. I’ve shopped the crown next to another genuine badge.

There are some good YCV threads on here but also some not so good. I recall one where a member told another the badge his grandfather was given as a boy living in Zegers Cappel in France during WW1 was fake! It of course was not.

Indeed!

And the lion on the Gm Manchester Pals from the same seller was missing its tail.

Yeah, seems to have come across a good collection and in the process of breaking it up. Some nice badges he has listed and sold already......a few nice economy badges, WW2 commando (not sure about them though), RNAS, Cardiff Pals and as you say the Manchester Pals.

Seems there's a few Pal's and service battalion badges up recently.
