Default they'll repro anything

A couple of days ago, I wouldn't have believed anyone would bother reproducing a nickel and dime badge like a Royal Canadian Medical Corps badge. Now it's official -- someone, somewhere will repro anything. This is a new one for me, along with some other other 'go figures' in this vendor's listings like a QC Les Fusiliers Mont-Royal and a Royal Montreal Regiment KC badge.

Check this eBay item out, 270225659702, then look at the list of other Canadian 'badges' offered.

This must be "International List A Repro Day", seeing these listings coincide with the bi-monthly listing of all those 8th Recce/Quintes Own/113th Lethbridge/49th Edmonton/96th Winnipeg knock-offs. Hasn't the Indian subcontinent run out of pot metal and brass yet?

This Nuneaton seller is well known, all her badges are crap.
God knows why people still buy from her.

Cheers

I did say in another thread, the 2 most dreaded words on E bay are "scarce "and "rare", I should have also added " original".

Also beware of "unknown"- there are so many people keeping an eye on E bay that there are few ( but some ) bargains to be had.

If you have an item and you know nothing about it,why would you use words like the above. If you know an item is worth good folding money, would you risk selling it at undervalue, by putting a low reserve on it.

Still looking others opinions as to what percentage of Militaria on E bay is
c--p.

Nobody mentions Speedbid, I have always found the items generally to of a better quality than those on other sites

As a seller of my "trader" badges on e-bay I've noticed the starting price of a badge has an influence on the bidding and ultimate selling price. For Canadian CEF badges, starting the price at under $10 is the way to go - you can usually count on selling them for what they are worth (or more!) but not always - I recently sold a CEF Mounted Rifles Draft for $45, worth double that - someone got very lucky! If the starting price is high but closer to the badge's true value, IMO, the badge gets fewer bids and sells for less.

The opposite seems true for British badges - I've sold a few nice badges for my starting price of $5 to $10 - badges that I thought were worth double or triple that, and which I was hoping would be bid up to true value. Put that down to British badge collectors being alot more distrustful of e-bay sellers!

Cheers, Ian.

Ian what you say is very true I have trays of British badges but will never put them on ebay and sadly they will probably never see the light of day again but I will not nickle and dime them . As for the CEF the days of the 10.00 dollar badge are long over and I would never start one at under 35.00 any more the market can handle it with no problem. You run into a grey area when you start putting reserves on stuff or high buy it nows IMO food for thought it works for me
