Default Scottish fakes

Good day all , First timer !!! I am a highland cap badge collector of all time periods and all the commenwealth countries, I know my stuff for the most part with the Canadian badges , I had a friend introduce me to the evils of ebey, and found a few badges I had alway's wanted to get (queen vic stuff ). I had my wuffers up because I had always heard of the stuff from the UK is tricky . .I trusted the ones that had advertized as " genuine " .When I recieved them I was a child in excitement " what a deal " but there was something I didn't like about them . I know it sounds weird but with a Canadian badge I can tell it's a good badge just by feel ? plus growing up here helps . I do not know enough about the british badges to have an educated opinion on them .I have since been reading things on the topic and have learned alot ,and stumbled across this site, Does anybody know certain ebay sellers to stay away from ? . the more I get familiar with this site and the computer I will try to send photo's thank you .......

Drummer,
Welcome, the 2 words to be most alarmed about on E bay are " genuine" and " rare" followed closely by " unknown ".The rarer Scottish badges have commanded a premium for many years, you will be lucky to get a bargain on E bay, but it is not impossible.
P.B.

The reason there are so many fakes of Brit badges is that the original dies were sold for scrapping, they were not scrapped, they were set up, and the making of restrikes has gone on for years, I was in a badge shop in Manchester once, several years ago, and they had barrels of badge restrikes, for 1 quid apiece, any number of QVC badges (rare ones) were in there, so the only hope there is for collectors to be educated about it,isthis forum, Read up on all of what is said here. .....Bill

Read a thread on restrikes by the " administator " and some advice by Mr Owen , THANK YOU..... my apologies for asking for specific ebay sellers names and can appreciate the administators stand on the matter. And thanks to Mr Owen . I had taken a cab ride in south Wales , and will not take it again. one good thing is I found this site due to the suspicions I had about the cab fare......
