Gentlemen,
A question about this SAS beret badge. There is one on a Kangol beret from WWII, and a separate badge alongside it. I presume it is authentic, but is there more info about the exact period or unit/country? |

It's not my field of collecting but can you tell me why you presume it is authentic?

Because the beret is authentic and other badges in the collection also.
It´s not full proof of course, but surely likely. |

I've always been curious when someone claims that a particular WW2 SAS wing or badge is genuine. Does photographic fact support these opinions?
It appears that some collectors base their judgements of what is "authentic," particularly with regard to special forces, on the general consensus. This applies to many countries, not only the special forces of the UK. As I have said, UKSFs is not my field but WW2 SAS seems to have the most significant number of variations.

WW2 being the inception point of the mainstream UKSF and invariably all of those smaller units will naturally have the most variations.
We were fighting in various theatres with little logistical support in some areas. Also ordnance patterns of SAS Wings and cap badges didn’t appear until later in the war. I could show you many unofficial patches, in country made to the UKSF since they started to appear in 2005/6. Most people wouldn’t have a clue on them nor would they be impressed by the quality of some. |
