Commanding Officers bugler
Hi folks
This arrived earlier today, described on eBay as Durham Light Infantry, is that correct or could just a be a generic Light Infantry CO's bugler. Beautiful badge what ever it is, silver on Rifle Green. Cheers Sean |

Sean,
In silver on rifle green it could be for most Light Infantry Regiment's No1 Dress. Here are a few variations I have. The single bugle being No1 Dress for the Light Infantry Bugler. Tim

Thanks Tim I have one of tha larger SCLI badges but none of the others, thanks for showing.
My view was that it would be for most Light Infantry too. Cheers Sean |

Ive have various images of LI buglers. There seems to have been a number of badges used over the years.
A more circular badge with wreath and bugle and the appointment sewn beneath. So "RSM's bugler" etc etc. Its a lovely badge that would warrant some research to pin down a date and if it is in fact a DLI badge or more likely for the whole LI. |

Could Tims Gold ones be something to do with the Kings Regiment?

Sean,
King's were double bugles on scarlet. Here is an extract from the Duke of Lancaster's Dress Regulations. Commanding Officers’ & Adjutants’ Buglers. King’s pattern: two bugle horns within a laurel wreath embroidered on an oval scarlet backing, CO’s Bugler badge embroidered in gold wire, Adjutant’s Bugle badge in silver wire. So possible for other regiments: CO's Bugler gold wire and Adjutant's Bugler in silver wire? Tim

Thanks. However I wonder why it does not follow the design of the RGJ Bugler and CO's Bugler. You will see that my other (double bugle) badge is not on the RGJ page. Uniformology is an extensive and excellent site but there are inevitably some inaccuracies! Tim

I really have no idea why its as it is. All that I can think of is that the badge wasn't originally of the Rifle Brigade pattern which is what the RGJ badges were.It could be that it was adopted at a later date than the original double bugle badge and whoever produced it used another regiments badge as the pattern. How does it compare size wise to the examples of "The King`s Regt " ones you've shown ? Ive looked at my copies of the Regiment and at the RGJ band site. The both badges can be clearly seen being worn. Although, the wreath appears to be absent in the older images. Ive found some images that is same type of wreath as the one Tim has posted. Single bugle ,full wreath ,silver on rifle green sewn onto a red backing. The title states "Aldershot Military Display 1970's ", "indicates he is either the COs ,Adjutants or RSMs bugler.
Another more rounded ,a gap at the top of the wreath and red between the cords of the bugle. States "RSMs bugler 1995". Three similar with the appointment sewn in underneath the wreath, stated as from 1993. Last edited by Mike H; 31-08-18 at 03:06 PM. |
