Rifle Volunteers?
Is this a rifle volunteers button? I've not got Howard Ripleys book 'Rifle volunteers buttons 1859-1908' but im guessing if it is would it be in that book?.

It is indeed in Howard Ripley's 'Rifle Volunteer Buttons' book (number 178), identified as Simon has said above.
According to Howard's text examples have only been noted in silver and white metal. Is yours a well rubbed silver example or blackened brass originally? Roger |
