Default Bermuda

Just coming back to this forum after a long absence (I first joined back in 2008). I live and work in Bermuda and have put together a reasonable collection of Badges from The Bermuda Militia Artillery, The Bermuda Volunteer Rifle Corps, The Bermuda Rifles and the Royal Bermuda Regiment. I wondered if there are any other collectors of Bermudian badges out there ?

Hello Martin,

I just have a basic set to the Bermuda Militia Artillery post-1902, and a set of the Bermuda Regiment.

I had only in the past couple of days reached the conclusion from PVCN 1913 that the BMA were already wearing the standard RA forage cap badge by then.

Cheers,
Keith

Hello and welcome back. Can you give me any history of the Royal Engineers in Bermuda please.
I have a GV1R gm badge with a white metal M that is reputably from the Bermuda Engineer Vols. Can you confirm if this is correct.

Thanks,
Jerry

For many years I had believed that the BMA wore the 'Militia' pattern RA badge with w/m 'M' below the wheel. It would appear that this may not have been the case and that they may only have worn the RA grenade collar dog, without the Ubique scroll, until as late as 1932. I have copies of correspondence sent between Bermuda and the War Office in the early 1930's arguing about their permission to wear the regular RA gun badge. The Bermuda Contingent, Royal Garrison Artillery, which was drawn from the BMA and which saw service in France & Flanders 1916 - 1919, appears to have worn regular RGA badges.

The Bermuda Volunteer Engineers accepted their first recruits c.1934. They were trained to provide signals support to the garrison here and to operate the large searchlights at St David's Battery. They wore regular RE cap badges and collar dogs with locally produced 'BVE' shoulder titles. I too have seen and indeed bought RE Militia cap badges pro-porting to be from the BVE. Sadly they are spurious. After the Second World War the BVE was absorbed into the Bermuda Local Forces and rebadged accordingly. BLF provided a Headquarters and signals support to the Bermuda Militia Artillery and the Bermuda Rifles until these were amalgamated as the Bermuda Regiment in 1965 (now The Royal Bermuda Regiment).
